For centuries, Lisette d'Alen on has been a warrior against the dark. She fights alongside her brothers and comrades. But when the dreams start coming, she can't bear to confess them to the Immortal Guardians' command. She dreams of a dark-haired man with soft eyes and brutal wounds, a man her heart aches for-and a man she knows has been declared a traitor. Zach is an exile, a loner. He won't defend himself against false accusations or grovel to those who should have faith in him. But he'll damn sure defend the woman who kept him sane against a plague of supervamps that seems to have appeared from nowhere. The Guardians will blame him, and that will make Lisette suspect, too. With life, death, and eternity on the line, who can they really trust?

Zach intrigued me when I first met him in Darkness Rises, making me curious to learn his story, and the reason for Seth’s anger towards him. Zach is an Immortal, however unlike Seth, he led a lonely existence for a thousand years. Usually, he stays out of Seth’s path, but then he laid eyes on Lisette. After a brief but violent encounter with her, he became quite smitten, and nothing in this world could keep him away. It didn’t matter if he was wrongly accused of betraying the Immortal Guardians and being tortured by his own kind. His feelings for Lisette gave him the strength to escape and find his way back to her.

Now, do not go into 🎧︎Night Unbound expecting a slow burn romance. If that’s your jam you will be sorely disappointed.  Zach and Lisette’s feelings for each other developed rather quickly.  However, given the nature of their situation one could easily buy into their romance. The heat between them will leave you breathless and their sexy banter will have you breaking out into giggles.

The level of teamwork and loyalty displayed by this group and the depth respect for their leader, especially in dealing this new threat wowed me.  It warmed my heart to see how they embraced Zach into their fold giving him a sense of belonging.

The story moved quickly with intense battles, non-stop action and witty banter. Not knowing the identity of the enemy added to the intensity of the story, especially when the clues led to one of their own. The story pulled me in and soon I became immersed into the unique world of the Immortal Guardians. It was fun catching up with the characters from the previous books and seeing how much has changed for them. Also the story delivered some eye opening titbits about Seth and Zach. None of the Immortal Guardians with the exception of David is privy to this information. I am looking forward to learning more.

Kirsten Potter is the voice of the series for me. As expected, she did an exceptional job with both male and female voices. She also captured Lisette and her siblings French accents quite well.

🎧︎Night Unbound was a satisfying addition to the series and one I would recommend to fans of paranormal romance and urban fantasy.

Seth shook his head. ” Why would you do this for me after I let the others torture you?” ” I’m not doing this for you. I’m doing it for Lisette,” Zach told him. ” I nearly lost her, Seth. Those bastards nearly killed her. I’ll befriend whomever I fucking have to, to discover who set those dogs on her. I’ll do whatever I have to do to ensure they never come near her again. And” He grimaced “if spending the rest of eternity with her means I have to play nice with you and your precious immortals, then I’ll damned well play nice.”
