The cover for A Stop in Time, coupled with the synopsis, captured my attention. The bonus was learning it was set in the same world as Beyond My Darkness. Suspense, romance, mystery and supernatural events await you in Boldt’s latest release.
Title: A Stop in Time
USA Today bestselling author RC Boldt brings readers an intriguing paranormal romantic suspense in A Stop in Time... I’ve been an outcast my whole life. If my scars don’t scare people off, my attitude certainly will. I don’t know what I am or how I got the power to stop time. What I do know is, there are far too many questions I need answers to. When I cross paths with Daniel Madrano, second-in-command of a notoriously violent gang, his presence unravels a part of my past I never knew existed. He may be a criminal and a murderer, but he’s the first man to look at me and see beyond my scars. As more of my memories rise to the surface, filling in the numerous gaps, danger only leaps closer. I’m faced with losing everything—including the first man I’ve ever loved. But I should’ve known better. We were never meant to be more than a brief stop in time. R.C. Boldt first came on my radar when I discovered Washed Away. I enjoyed it a lot, which prompted me to pick up Beyond My Darkness. Now, based on my experience with both theses books, I had no reservations about diving into A Stop in Time. It didn’t disappoint. Boldt delivered a unique story, featuring a sassy and strong heroine, designed to enthrall her readers and keep them engaged to the end.
Earlier, I mentioned that the story was set in the same world as Beyond My Darkness. Despite A Stop in Time being a stand-alone, I recommend reading Beyond My Darkness first. This way, one will get a peek into the life of Daniel Madrano prior to his journey in A Stop in Time. At the beginning of the story, Daniel learns of his sister’s murder. The only lead he had were two names: Mac and Pinney. His search for the truth and quest for vengeance led him to McKenzie Ford.
Mackenzie owns and operates a salvage yard, and the people in the community treat her like an outcast. However, being a strong individual, she doesn’t allow it to get to her. She wishes to live her life in peace, however; there are moments where she experiences gaps in her memory, severe headaches and episodes of sleepwalking. She possesses the unique ability to stop time, but she has no memory of how or when she developed this ability. Because of the gaps in her memory, she genuinely believes she had no information with which she could assist Daniel in his search for answers. After all, she needs answers.
I had a blast with this story from start to finish. There was never a dull moment. The journey is intense, mysterious, suspenseful and filled with humour. Mac’s way with words, especially in her interactions with Daniel, cracked me up. They shared an intense chemistry and the romance which developed as a result was hot and steamy. I enjoyed getting to know both Daniel and Mac. They both had difficult pasts and anted them both to heal and find peace. However, they faced many challenges in their journey. In their search for answers, Daniel and Mac encountered shocking revelations, which had the potential to destroy their happiness. I loved how it all worked out in the end.
Overall, I found A Stop in Time to be an enjoyable read. It’s a story of healing, love, forgiveness and overcoming adversity. Readers of romantic suspense with a touch of the supernatural will love this latest offering from Boldt.
