I want her. What she doesn’t want is me. She made that perfectly clear the summer after high school when she broke up with me. That hasn’t stopped her from crawling in my bed on more than one occasion though. Not that anyone knows about us, or our past. We’ve kept that secret under lock and key for years. But I’m getting sick and tired of lying to my friends. I’m not ashamed of my love for her.Yes, I love her.I always have. And I know she loves me too. She’s just afraid to admit it.When we get caught in a compromising position though, all the lies she’s been telling start to crumble around her. And if there’s one thing she hates more than me at the moment, it’s being vulnerable. That doesn’t stop me from taking advantage of her weakened state. Of trying to work my way back into her heart. Of reminding her why we should be together. But the more she lets me in, the more her lies are starting to get twisted. The ones she’s telling others but mostly the ones she’s been telling herself. If I want my second chance, I’m going to have to find a way to break through the fortress she’s erected around her heart.I know she’s the one for me. She has been since we were teenagers. My first love. My last. My only.
Twisted Little Lies is the eight interconnected standalone book in the Lake State University series. This installment continues where the Tangled Little Truths left off.
In this installment, we get Cleo and Kane’s story. It surprised me to learn of Cleo and Kane’s relationship. I honestly thought she and Max would end up together, but I was way off. The biggest surprise was learning of the history between Cleo and Kane. A history which went as far back as middle school. Now these two had a lot of issues to work through.
Cleo annoyed and frustrated me with her behaviour. Without a doubt, Kane loved her to put up with her behaviour. I found her reasons for ending their relationship in high school pretty dumb. It revealed her level of maturity. Even after four years of college, she kept holding on to that reason. Then there were the lies she told her friends, but the biggest one was the one she told herself. It took me sometime to warm up to her.
Kane was a sweetheart. He knew what he wanted and would move heaven and earth to get it. He fought hard for his forever with Cleo.
Twisted Little Lies has a lot of angst, enough to give one a whiplash. Now matter how hard Kane tried to prove to her they belonged together, she kept pushing back. However, the harder she pushed back, the more intense things grew between them.
The supporting characters added depth to the story and helped to make things interesting. It was fun catching up with the couples from the previous books and getting a peek at where they were in their relationship.
Overall, a great addition to the series….. excited to see what the next book will offer.

I’m glad that although it wasn’t the match you predicted that it still worked for you. Nice review, Nadene.
Not a fan of angst, but glad this one delivered for you.
Wonderful review, Nadene. Glad you enjoy this series.
This one is new to me. I would probably have some of the same issues with Cleo that you did. I am glad to see that you enjoyed it overall.
