Eve of Destruction, book one in The League: Eve of Destruction series, gave me my first taste of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s work. A short read, which also introduced me to her prolific League series. The first book in a new series of novella set in the League world. Also, the events of this installment took place prior to the first book in the League series.
Now, despite my lack of familiarity with the world I had no issues following the story. The only drawback is that it whetted my appetite for more of this world.
The story was exciting, and it hooked from the beginning. Now, at ninety plus pages, the romance between the protagonists Jinx and Eve developed quickly. Despite the pace at which the romance developed, their connection felt genuine. What made their romance special is that Jinx a League assassin, was trained to be devoid of feelings. However, the moment he laid eyes on Eve, he was drawn to her. He knew he should stay away because of the danger involved, but he couldn’t.
Kenyon weaved an engaging tale filled with intrigue, humour and romance. I had a good time with this installment and look forward to more from the series.

Every Life Has a Price
Dakari Tievel has been marked for death by the infamous League. Staying barely one step ahead of the assassins out to end her life, she must find the legendary Eve of Destruction. But Eve is a lot more than just a bounty hunter who calls the shadows home. She comes with an interesting crew of friends and family who have no problem defying the League that rules their worlds with an iron fist.
Now they must rely on the most unlikely of allies to keep Dakari safe, and themselves alive. Provided he doesn't betray them.
In a universe where the League is law, it's killed or be killed.
.
Born of Rage is the third book in The League: Eve of Destruction series. I went into this book expecting a single story, but I got three stories. The stories are Born of Rage, The Neighbors and Fire and Ice.
Born of Rage features Jinx and Eve. The story focused on Jinx’s reunion with his younger sister, Dakari. A kill on sight order initiated by the League had Dakari running for her life. Jinx sets out to find her before the hit could be executed. A very short read, which left me wanting more.
The Neighbors tell the story of fourteen-year-old Jaime, who is certain his neighbors are up to no good and sets out to prove his theory. An oddball in this collection of stories as it has nothing to do with the League world. However, the premise intrigued me but it left me wanting more. It would be nice if Kenyon would rewriting this story with a lot more substance.
Of the three stories, Fire and Ice was my ‘favorite. In this story, we meet Adron Quiakides, a former League assassin and Livia typpa Vista. Adron suffers PTSD because of several weeks of torture he endured at the hands of a deranged man. Livia seeks a stranger to give her virginity to escape a forced to marriage to a man twice her father’s age. When Adron and Livia’s paths crossed, sparks flew.
The story, which featured a great cast of characters, was one of hope, love and healing. Not only did it give us some teary-eyed moment, but it also delivered a few laugh out loud scenes. I thought it was well fleshed out despite being a short read.

Reading this book contributed to these challenges:
I’ve read all the League books but it was quite awhile ago. They had lots of torture and difficult circumstances. But I really enjoyed them as I have the Dark Hunter books.
I have the Dark Hunter books, just need to find the time to read them.
I need to explore this author. Great reviews, you’ve piqued my interest.
I love her books. I need to read these now.
Excellent reviews, Nadene. This series sounds exciting, and I’m glad you’re enjoying it
Thanks Wendy. Both novellas were entertaining.
Sounds like you got two great novellas to whet your appetite for more. Someday I’ll try this author.
Yes, I did.
I have so many books written by Sherrilyn Kenyon but haven’t read any of them yet. These do sound promising!
Both were good. Gave me a glimpse into world of the League of Assassins. I think you will enjoy them.
I’ve been a fan of hers since the first time I read her book. But born of rage(I understand is a novella)but it’s more like a pamphlet. Born of blood is also a novella but still is the same price of a hard cover. I just ordered the hard cover for almost $40. I had ordered the paperback and when it came I was shocked. If I’m paying that much for a pamphlet I better get the hardcover. I’m very disappointed
