Nadene: Today I am hosting Allie Harrison, author of Montgomery Manor, on Totally Addicted to Reading.
Allie will you share a short bio with us?
Allie: I live in Southern Illinois with my husband. When I’m not at my computer dreaming up the next haunted house or the next hot hero, I’m spending time with my kids, hiking, camping, reading, and trying out a new recipe. I enjoy music and spending time with friends around the firepit.
Nadene: Tell us about your latest book and where the idea came from?
Allie: My latest book is Montgomery Manor, which is Book Two of the Haunted Series. Montgomery Manor is a beautiful Bed & Breakfast complete with gorgeous guest rooms, a five-star restaurant, endless corridors, hidden treasure, and a haunting history of true love, betrayal, and murder…
When soulmates Quint and Meg Falkner inherit it, they are in way over their heads. With a bit of faith and strange push they cannot ignore, they jump head first into bringing the large, compelling house back to its original grandeur.
But something is different…something is…wrong. Quint isn’t acting himself, and Meg keeps seeing visions, images of the past seeping into her very soul. When Meg becomes the target of a mysterious, dangerous admirer, her world implodes, leaving her vulnerable to the otherworldly inhabitants of the house…the very house calling out to her, its secrets begging to be uncovered.
Can Meg and Quint make a new life for themselves in Montgomery Manor, or will Montgomery Manor’s secrets tear them apart forever?
Where do I get my haunted ideas? It seems every time I visit a friend’s older home, visit a B&B, step into a creepy basement, or have lunch at the famous haunted Lemp Mansion in St. Louis, MO, I get ideas. Perhaps the ghosts give them to me…
Nadene: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Allie: I often tease that I wanted to be a writer the first time I gripped a pencil. I’ve always been an avid reader. I was amazed by Laura Ingalls Wilder who wrote books after being encouraged by her daughter. When I was a teenager, I started reading gothic novels and loved them. Then I read an article about Romance Writers of America in the newspaper and thought I’d check them out. The RWA members opened a whole new path for all the ideas that swirled in my head. And that path has led me to where I am.
Nadene: What’s been the most significant aspect of your career?
Allie: Being able to do what I love— through everything that has come with this journey of life: raising kids, being room mother and sports coach, earning a college degree, caring for parents, building a home, etc. My love and need to write has always been a constant.
Nadene : When writing what do you find easy, challenging and rewarding?
Allie: Every sentence can be easy, challenging and rewarding at the same time! But…the ideas come to me easy, getting my characters where I need them to be can be very challenging. Typing the words THE END and having the story wrap up the way I planned is rewarding. The greatest reward is being able to do something I genuinely love to do.
Nadene: I am aware that ideas generally pop up at some odd times. What was the oddest time an idea came to you and what did you do?
Allie: Many times I’ve awakened in the middle of the night with a ‘great’ idea. That’s why I keep a flashlight, pad of paper and pencil next to my bed because I know in the morning the ideas will be lost.
Nadene: How do you choose your characters’ names?
Allie: I have been known to write fifty pages of a story using capital A, B, C for various characters because sometimes characters don’t divulge their names until I’m well into it. I try to pick a name that fits them. For last names, I’ve opened a phone book and pointed and picked the name where my finger landed!
Nadene: How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
Allie: I have 9 published as Allie Harrison and 6 published works writing as Allie Quinn. Every time I finish one, it is my favorite. My first published work, a Silhouette Shadows (remember those?) entitled Dream a Deadly Dream will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s my first. I love the idea and the characters and the ending in Out of the Storm. And because I love paranormal and ghosts, I am thoroughly enjoying my new Haunted Series! I think Will Dalton might be my favorite hot hero! Quint Falkner in Book Two running a very close second.
Nadene: What is your favorite quote?
Allie: I have many, but this one always makes me smile!
“Are Father and Uncle Max going to push the car all the way to Switzerland?” The Sound of Music
Another favorite: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” Jaws
My favorite non-movie quote: “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” Eleanor Roosevelt
Nadene: What is next on your writing agenda?
Allie: I’m presently working on the Haunted #3 Camden Place which takes place in Charleston, SC, one of my favorite cities with lots of ghost stories! Camden Place will be available this fall.
Nadene: Do you have any advice for new and prospective writers?
Allie: Never give up your dream. Write what you want. Slow and steady (and perseverance) wins the race.

Can Meg and Quint make a new life for themselves in Montgomery Manor, or will Montgomery Manor’s secrets tear them apart forever?
“There’s something different about the way Quint looks at me,” Meg said.
“Like what?” Evan asked.
The chimes above the door rang to signal a customer’s arrival. She stared at the man walking into her shop. It was Quint. At least she thought he was Quint.
“Like that,” she said, more to herself than to Evan.
The man who entered her shop looked like Quint; he had the same dark hair, the same sharp features, the same fiery blue eyes, and the same six-foot muscular build that came from years of working construction. His deep, hard gaze never left her as he walked past the shelves of books toward her, his body moving with his familiar gait. Yes, he was her husband.
Wasn’t he?
His gaze caressed her, from the top of her head to the tips of her toes, undressing her with his eyes, seeing into the deep ocean of her soul. He looked like he wanted to devour her.
He held her bound with his unyielding look, and her heart pounded in her chest.
His expression was hungry, but his eyes said so much more. There was a look of excitement, as well as an anxious bearing of waiting, wanting, knowing. His dark twilight eyes lit with a savage, proud, inner fire that all but reached out and held her in place, a look that saw right into her, and read all her thoughts, her dreams, and her desires.
She felt her husband’s allure, like the heat of a fire on a cold night. It bound her, snatching the breath from her lungs. He was her husband, the same man she’d vowed to love, honor, and cherish for the rest of her life.
He’d changed, but she couldn’t figure out why that caused her blood to rush through her as if she’d just met his gaze from across a crowded room.
For a long moment, uncertainty held her tongue. She ached to move closer to him, as something about him commanded her to do.
Or should she run in the other direction?
Then his kiss captured her attention. His lips were hard and urgent, filled with need and longing.
His mouth, warm and perfect, sent a burning tingle of longing through her. He could have just as easily reached in to her chest and squeezed her heart in the palm of his hand.
This could not be her husband. Her husband never believed in public displays of affection.
Her senses whirled with the taste of mint and Quint, leaving her knees weak, and her soul uncertain.
Public or not, how long had it been since he’d kissed her with such overwhelming passion? She couldn’t remember. Never? She broke away.
Quint let her break the breath-stealing kiss. “I thought we could have lunch and celebrate tonight’s grand opening. Alone.”
“Where?” She forced in a breath.
“At home, in our bed.” He whispered, his breath hot and sensual against her ear.
