What an exciting installment. I have been following this series from the beginning and I have enjoyed all the books I read so far. Therefore, when the opportunity came for me to read Scorched by Darkness, I knew I could not let it pass. I went into this book with high expectations and once again Heaton did not disappoint.
Action, passion, nail biting moments and awesome characters all made for a spell binding read. The story kept me entertained from start to finish making it difficult to put down.
Hanging out with the characters, both old and new proved a delightful experience. I met the hero Hartt in the previous installment. He intrigued me, leaving me curious to learn of his past. Now I know what makes him tick. Also, the story revealed the reason for his undying loyalty to Fuery, the hero from Unchained by a Forbidden Love. If asked to use one word to describe Hartt, I would with selfless, which may sound strange considering his profession.
Mackenzie, his fated mate captured my interest from the moment of her introduction. She was no damsel in distress but a fighter in every sense of the word. I suspected she had supernatural powers, but the revelation of her true nature was both shocking and intriguing. In the paranormal world, her type was considered a myth.
I enjoyed their interactions with each other. Fiery and passionate, they ignited the pages, from their fight scenes to the more intimate ones. OMG! She was the light to his darkness, which made them perfect for each other.
Now on to the job which brought these two together. I wondered at the motive of the person who hired them. Why would one hire two assassins for the same job and for such a deadly target? Well, the revelation of the motive and the outcome amped up the excitement.
Reconnecting with the characters from the previous books added to the excitement of the story. They reminded me of the reason I love this series.
Heaton knows how to make the reader feel a part of the world she created, and it was no different for Scorched by Darkness.
I could rave on and on about this story, but I am going to stop here. The only thing left for me to say is if you are a fan of the genre, then this series will make a great addition to your library.
