Sometimes your first love is also your last.

Andrew Callaway doesn’t do love — not since Amanda broke his heart and left him in a cloud of dust. Devoting himself to the family ranch, he’s determined to be the man his dad would be proud of, minus the one-night stands and stream of mistakes. Five years after watching her drive away, his first love is back. Andrew finds himself wanting more than meaningless easy conquests, a lot more.

Following her dream of becoming a chef, Amanda Watkins left Montana with a beat-up pickup truck and a broken heart. Five years after watching Andrew fade away in her rear-view mirror, she’s back and is dead set on avoiding the man she still dreams about. When she’s hired to cater for a Callaway celebration, sparks fly and old emotions run hot. If she thought the boy she knew was dangerous, she’s about to find out that the man he became is lethal.

Blame is a dangerous game to play, but forgiveness takes courage that may just prove too difficult to reach.

Forgive Me by Kaithlin Shepherd is the 2nd book in the Callaway series. I enjoy reading stories about second chances at love, as such I was eager to read this installment.

It is a quick read, and I was able to complete it in a short space of time. It was moving and engaging. However, there were moments within the story where I was literally rolling my eyes. It was these eye rolling moments that prevented me from giving the story a higher rating.

Forgive Me tells the story of Andrew Callaway and Amanda Walters. Andrew and Amanda grew up together and were inseparable. They began dating when they were fifteen years old. They were very much in love. However, after graduating from high school, Amanda left Montana. She left to pursue her dream of becoming a Sous chef. However, her departure devastated Andrew, especially as she never told him goodbye. He became a shell of the man he once was. He tried moving past the pain and the hurt by engaging in self-destructive behaviour. However, no matter what he did, he could not purge Amanda from his mind and his heart. Five years have passed since that fateful day and Amanda has returned. Due to a personal tragedy, she was forced to return and will now have to face the man she had hurt.

Andrew is a handsome and sexy alpha male. He is dominant and possessive. However, he was not autocratic. Although he still loved Amanda he knew he had to tread cautiously. His biggest fear was that she would leave him again. However, despite that fear, he was determined that should she leave again, he would go after her. He was not about to lose her for a second time.

Amanda is strong, caring classy and loyal. Five years ago, she made a choice that would change her life. She sacrificed the love of her life to pursue her dreams. I understood why she felt she had to leave. Her leaving helped her to mature and to discover what was important in life. Now that she has returned home, she tried to distance herself from Andrew. However, this proved to be an impossible feat. Amanda had not forgiven herself as such, it was not easy for her to accept that Andrew and his family had forgiven her.

The story line was not unique. However, this did not stop me from enjoying the story. I loved the interaction between each of the characters. I enjoyed seeing how Andrew was willing to fight for his second chance with the love of his life. This was a steamy read. They could not get enough of each other. Every encounter between them was sizzling.

Earlier, I mentioned that there were moments in the story that had me rolling my eyes. I found Andrew’s obsession with Amanda’s ass tiresome. In addition, Amanda’s constant reference to Andrew’s hotness was over the top. There were so many references in this story that I lost count. Personally, I don’t believe that these aspects had to be mentioned so many times. It was already established so the numerous mentions were unnecessary.

I liked the twist the author threw in near the end. I knew that something would have happened to put a damper on the romance, but I did not expect this particular event. At this point in the story, my admiration for Amanda grew. Her actions demonstrated how loving someone means accepting everything about them.

Forgive Me is a story of family, friendships, healing and forgiveness. Overall, I found it an entertaining read, and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Growing up in a household filled by strong-headed women, she learned early on that life is what you make it. You’ve probably never met a bigger country music fan and in the words of Brooks and Dunn, she’s a die-hard ‘George Strait junkie.’ Constructing a world away from her real life, Kaithlin loves the feeling of creating a universe where her fans can forget about everything in their life. She loves writing about hot alphas and doesn’t shy away from turning up the heat with scorching hot sex scenes.
