BOOK TOUR: REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY – LAGUNA HEIGHTS by KAIRA ROUDA

Laguna Heights by Kaira Rouda is the 2^nd book in her Laguna Beach series and like the previous installment can be read as a stand-alone.  In this installment readers are reacquainted with Annie Johns, who made a brief appearance in book one.  Annie is a former teen reality TV star whose past is shrouded in secrets and now that past has come back to haunt her.

The story moves between the past and present, allowing readers to experience what Annie went through while in college.   We see her meeting Chris, who she thought was the man of her dreams, but who turned out to be her worst nightmare.  Annie had failed to see Chris as the narcissist that he was until it was too late, at which point she paid the ultimate price.  Annie was able to move past these events with the help of close friends, including Hank, who would eventually become her husband.  Everything was going well for Annie until Chris returned to claim what he believed to be his. Now Annie is faced with the biggest dilemma, that of telling her husband the secret she has kept hidden all these years.  Is their love strong enough to survive this secret?

The story was well written and it held my attention to the end. I was anxious to see how things would turn out. During the time Annie spent with Chris I feared for her as I had no idea what he was planning to do. It was evident that he was unstable and his likelihood of exploding increased exponentially when things did not go his way.

Laguna Heights shows the negative impact that being in an unhealthy relationship can have our mental and physical well-being.  It portrays how victims of abuse usually fail to see the signs that they are in an abusive relationship.   It also shows that with the right support system one can experience healing and discover what it means to be truly loved. 

This was a great story and I would definitely recommend it.
