New York Times and USA Today bestseller Lynsay Sands continues her enormously popular vampire series starring the Argeneau family

A few hours ago, Sherry Carne would have sworn that vampires didn’t exist. That’s before rogue immortals rampage through her store, leaving bloody chaos (literally) in their wake. The kicker comes when Sherry learns that one of the vamps on the bad guys’ trail may be her life mate. Her head says it’s impossible. The rest of her takes one look at Basileios Argeneau, and has much more interesting ideas.

Whatever Basil expected in a life mate, funny, outspoken Sherry isn’t it. But mind-blowing chemistry and instinct don’t lie. They tell him something else too—that Sherry’s connection to the immortal world goes deeper than she knows. And that she’s in the kind of danger only Basil can save her from—if she’ll just trust him, now and forever . . .

I heard great things about this series and being a fan of
the paranormal genre I decided to give it a try.  You may be wondering why I choose to start
with this title, which happen to be number 21 in the series.  Well, I have always been the type of
individual that rarely reads a series in order.
Now that I have finished reading and is faced with the task of writing a
review I have been asking myself if I made the right choice.  Don’t get me wrong, this book can be read as
a standalone and I did not find myself trying to figure out who was who.  My reason for questioning my judgement was
that this story did not impress me one bit and as such it somewhat act as a
deterrent for me to go and read the previous books in the series.
The story started out with a bang which compelled me to keep
reading, however, as the story progressed it lost its momentum. So instead of
the fast paced, action packed and romantic story I was expecting what I got was
a story that was slow and the romance was non-existent.  There were, however, some redeeming
qualities. What I liked about this book was the author’s unique take on
vampires.
Based on the synopsis the focus of this story is on Sherry
Carne and Basileios Argeneau.  Sherry is
a successful businesswoman whose life has been turned upside down the day she
learned that vampires do exist. It was further complicated when it was brought
to her attention that one of them was her life mate.  I was a little confused about her reaction to
the situation.  One minute she was
questioning everything and the next she seemed to be ok with all that was
happening.
Basileios is a 3,538 year old vampire.   Currently he is a lawyer and a member of the
vampire council. In addition to this he is the father of 26 children. Yes, you
read right. Personally, I found him to be dull and boring and did not think he
was a good fit for Sherry. There was no chemistry between them.   There was so much going on in the story
that they did not have the time to get to know each other.   Hence, I found it strange that they were able
to fall in love in such a short space of time.

Everything happened quickly, even the manner in which the
villain was dispatched. The story felt rushed. It was as if the author was more
concerned with closure rather than quality.
It’s probably best  you read it for yourself and form your own
opinion.  For me it was just an average read.

I received a complimentary copy of this book
in exchange for an honest review.
