📚Kingdom Come by Aleatha Romig is one of several books in the Underworld Kings series. A multi author series where each book is written by a different author. The books work well as standalones, making it easy for one to start anywhere in the series.

They say the price of freedom is learning that you have nothing left to lose. There was a time when I had it all. Money. Power. Love. And in the blink of an eye, it was gone. Along the road to my new life, I have a chance meeting with Cecilia Abernathy. Born to greatness, this American princess is out of my league. That doesn’t mean I don’t see her for the woman she is behind the headlines. In a rare glimpse I see not only her outward beauty but her inner determination. I’m moved by her in ways I don’t allow myself to ponder. Time passes and I’m moving forward, persevering beyond my loss, and making a new name for myself. And then I’m given an assignment. One job .One quest. If I succeed, my kingdom will be at hand. If I fail, there will be no more chances.
Men like me aren’t saviors, and that isn’t my assignment. My mission is to find the daughter of one of the most powerful men in New York, in the country, and maybe the world. Find her and deliver her to her family’s rival.
Cecilia Abernathy has been kidnapped. All I have to do is exchange her current hell for another. And then I can walk away and claim my reward. Has my taste of freedom made me willing to sell my soul for a kingdom? Find out the answer in KINGDOM COME, a dangerous forced-proximity stand-alone romance by New York Times bestselling author Aleatha Romig.

In 📚Kingdom Come, Romig served up a tale filled with suspense, action, intrigue and romance. A tale which keeps the reader entertained from start to finish. While one may be tempted to go through the story quickly to feed one’s desire to learn what awaits the characters, this story  needs to be savored.

We see greed at play and the lengths one will go to gain power in this fascinating tale. Filled with many twists and turns, the story leaves you breathless with each page turn.

The story introduced the reader to a variety of flawed characters majority of whom were villains. The main exception being the heroine Cecelia, who was the victim of a heinous act. An act perpetrated by persons whom she expect would protect her. Greyson, the hero and the lesser of all the evils in this brutal world, proved to be Cecelia’s saving grace. The one person whom came to her rescue and who made it his mission to protect her in the aftermath.

📚Kingdom Come elicited a variety of emotions, but the urge to scream and throw my kindle across the room topped the list.  (Not that I would, that thing is bloody expensive). Then there were the moments which had cheering, especially when certain characters received what they so richly deserved. Those moments were absolutely golden.

Greyson Ingalls is originally from New Orleans and is looking to outrun his past.  The story gave a little peak into his past, despite this he remained an enigma. (I discovered at the end that the details surrounding his past can be found in the following books: Devil’s Deal and Angel’s Promise. Now that is two more books to add to my TBR). Despite the limited details surrounding his past, Greyson was a man of action and not afraid to get his hands dirty. The type of hero one cannot help but cheer for.

“Greyson was unlike any other man I’d been with. He was mystery and danger, hurt and healing, caring and sensitivity. He was a dichotomy and a puzzle filled with ambiguity.”

I admired Cecelia’s strength and bravery. She went through hell at the hands of villains. Despite the degrading acts committed against her, she never allowed it to break her. She came from a powerful family, but id nothing to protect her. The fight for power placed her in this precarious position. The media portrayed her as a pampered princess, but this was far from true.

I enjoyed the romance that developed between Cecelia and Greyson. Greyson may be a villain, but he knows how to treat a woman. He did attempt to push her away several times, as he didn’t feel worthy, but his heart had other plans. Some may question the authenticity of the romance given the circumstances of its development, but I thought it was true to the story.

If you enjoy romance set in the underworld, then 📚Kingdom Come will make a great addition to your reading list.
