My love for reverse age gap romances coupled with its premise prompted me to pick up the Booker series. The series consists of two books, Booker and Bailout. Booker of course ended with a cliffhanger and Bailout picks immediately from where Booker ended.

One accident. One sizzling connection. A million reasons why this shouldn’t work.
Quiet and simple is how I like my life. Until Sam Booker—snowboarder, charmer, heartbreaker—crashes into my world and changes everything. I’m supposed to help him heal, but he’s not the only one that’s hurting.
He insists we’re destined. But are his feelings real?
Kat Peters is mine.
I want to show her the world, push her boundaries, but she won’t leave her life on the bunny hill in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
I may have woken up a different man, but I need to prove to her, to everyone, that I am the man that was made for her.

The instant connection that sparked in Booker continues in a way no one expected . . .
This is the third time my life has fallen apart. What I had pretended to be in the past is now banging down the door of my present. I’ve lived so many different lives, each one a more faded version of myself. Who am I now? Who do I want to be? Does Sam feel my body desperately reaching for his? I don’t know who I am if I don’t mean anything to Kat. After she dropped a bomb on my life, I’m filling my time with parties and fake shit. I need something else to keep me going. Something that won’t make me think about her. I’m somehow still tied to her, like our connection is too tightly knotted to be unwound. I will always, always crawl back to her. Wherever she is. The series introduces Sam Booker, a professional snowboarder  and Kat Peters a Registered Nurse. Sam’s involvement in a serious snowboarding accident landed him in the hospital in a coma. Kat, works the night shift and while tending to him she developed an instant connection to him. Their connection to each other intensified after he awakened from his coma. Soon these two would be involved in an intense and passionate romance. Now while Sam is an open book, Kat is closed off. She harbors secrets, which could destroy not only her career but also her relationship with Sam.

Sam and Kat’s relationship started out rather strange. I say strange because it began with Sam in a coma. Now while I thought they made a great couple, there were times when I thought this is not going to work. Sam was a bit pushy at times and gets angry when things didn’t go the way he wanted. While Kat  had  her many phobias and secrets. All of which placed a strain on their relationship.  The revelation of her secret would be the biggest obstacle to their relationship.

In spite of her phobias, Kat was a strong and brave individual. It took courage on her part to embrace her new life in this small town in Wyoming.

I wasn’t a big fan of Sam’s friends, with the way they mocked Kat because she was eight years older. Also the fact they didn’t respect Sam’s feelings for her made it even worse. I also didn’t but into their change of attitude and easy acceptance of her after past came crashing into her present.

There was a particular part in the story that puzzled me. I am still here wondering the reason for the person involved final action. An action which worked against giving Kat the closure needed from her past. Also the story glossed over other aspects of her past and there was no evidence of her dealing with these issues.

Although not perfect, I enjoyed the story hidden between the pages of Booker and Bailout. It had a few redeeming qualities. Also Kat and Sam’s connection warmed my heart.  The Booker series delivers a wonderful story of healing and love. It touches on subjects such as abuse and mental illness.
