Rhythm of their hearts

Slick lines and sweet nothings have zero effect on ambitious real estate developer Julie Dominick. Her love rules have thankfully saved her from dealing with messy relationship complications. But since R & B superstar Dante Wilson hired her to open his new Malibu nightclub, he’s determined to add some pleasure to their business dealings. And Julie’s strategy to protect her heart may not stand up to his seductive appeal.

Growing up in a music dynasty, Dante enjoys all the female attention that comes with his fame. For the first time, he knows what it feels like to be brushed off by someone he’s falling for. When his usual moves fall flat, he has to show Julie the real man behind all the glitz and glamour. Will it be enough to convince Julie that it’s better to break the rules rather than risk losing love’s passionate melody?

I have read a few books written by this author and I have found them entertaining. A MALIBU KIND OF ROMANCE falls in the same category. This is a story for readers who enjoys celebrity romance that is hot with a hint of sweetness.
The story is about a world’s best-selling R&B artist Dante Wilson and nightclub developer Julie Dominick. Dante has been in the music business from the tender age of thirteen. Music was literally his life. He grew up surrounded by music due to his family being a part of the industry. He had dutifully followed every rule laid out by his dad, but after 17 years of producing the same music he was desirous of starting his own brand. However, he was unable to garner the support from his family. This, however, did not deter him from pursuing his dream. To help in accomplishing his goal, he decided, with the help of a friend, to start a nightclub where he could showcase his music.
Julie has spent most of her career proving that she was good at what she did. When the opportunity arose for her to develop a night club for Dante Wilson, she was determined to pull out all the stops to land the contract. However, what she never counted on was her intense attraction to him. As a rule, she never mixed business with pleasure, but will she be able to maintain this rule for the duration of the contract?
The story, although predictable was well written. The pacing was good and it flowed seamlessly. I enjoyed the dialogue and the interaction between the characters. I especially enjoyed the interaction between Dante and Julie. It was fun watching Dante trying to break down Julie’s defenses, which was a novelty for someone who was used to women fawning all over him. I thought they were great together. I loved how he was protective of her and would go to any lengths to keep her safe.
I understood Julie’s reluctance to get involved with Dante. Having had her heart broken in the past, she was fearful of entering another relationship, especially with a celebrity. I loved Dante’s determination. He was not the type to give up, which he demonstrated not only in his pursuit of Julie but also in his work. Although he was confident he was fearful of failing and this made him work extra hard to prove himself.
This story highlighted the ups and downs in the music business. It revealed that it was not all about glitz and glamour. One had to be willing to work to make it to the top.
Verdict: This was a fun read which I recommend. I am hoping that Raymond’s story is next.
