WOW! This book was an awesome read. This is my first time reading Deborah Browns’s work. I have been reading a few new to me, authors, lately. Some were a hit and there were those that were a mess. Starfish Island was definitely a hit.  I can’t believe I almost missed reading this title due to work pressure. I am glad I got an extension on my deadline, thereby giving me the chance to experience Ms. Brown’s awesome storytelling.
This book was worth the lack of sleep.  It held my interest from the first chapter. It was definitely a page turner. One would think that inheriting a house on an island paradise was the most exciting that could happen to anyone. Well, Nicole Alexander was about to experience more excitement than she had bargained for. The moment she came to Starfish Island, to take up residence in the house, she inherited from her grandmother, she found herself embroiled in a series of life-threatening events. Added to that she attracted the attention of a hot sexy millionaire who was determined to protect her at all costs.
What I enjoyed most about Starfish Island, is uncovering who the villains were and their motives. It was not an easy task. There were moments that had me second guessing some of the characters. The romance was good, but it could not hold a candle to the mystery element of the story. The plot was intriguing and engaging. It made me eager to find out how events would unfold.
I found the characters well developed and interesting. I simply could not get enough of them. My favourite, however, was Nicole. She demonstrated strength even when the odds were against her.  Her life was threatened, but she was not about let the villain scare her away. She was determined to stay and fight for what was rightfully hers.
I knew from before I commenced reading that Starfish Island was the author’s first romance novel. You would never have guessed this while reading, though. She handled both elements beautifully.
This story is a prime example of what the apostle Paul was saying when he wrote to Timothy
“For the love of money is the root of all evil.”
It demonstrated the lengths that some would go through so that they could live a life of affluence. They resort to blackmail, murder and all kinds of mayhem.
If you are a fan of Deborah Brown, you will love this book. If you love a good mystery you will enjoy this book, and if you enjoy reading romance then this book is for you. I can’t wait to see what else the author has in her repertoire.
Verdict: Recommended.

About Deborah Brown

I’ve been writing, in one way or another for as long as I can remember; writing poetry, short stories, a romance novel secretly stashed under the bed and sappy love letters. Fiction should be fun. I wanted to create the perfect beach book, to make the reader laugh, cry and cheer… and then run out and tell their friends about it. My love of reading began when I was seven, the day I opened the cover of my first Mrs. Piggle Wiggle book. Mrs. P gave lessons to other children in how to behave and to me I learned to love the written word. I live with my family and demon children aka rescue cats in South Florida.
