Have you ever finished reading a book and thought what the hell? Well,
that was what happened with me at the end of Flesh by Kylie Scott. I chose to read this book based on the author and the fact it was about zombies. After reading the synopsis and discovering that it was erotica featuring m/f/m relationship, a little voice whispered, Nads this is not your cup of tea.  However, like a rude child, I ignored the voice and now I have to live with my horrible decision, because once you read something it can’t be unread and it stays you for the rest of your life.  The irony of it all it was not the relationship between the characters that made me feel this way as frankly I did not care much for them. It was the story itself.

Now this is supposed to be a story about zombies. Supposed being the operative word, but alas I could count on one hand the number of times I encountered zombies in the pages of this book. Attempts were made to DNF this book, but I guess I had to discover how the story would unfold.  

Several times the characters had me scratching my head and had me wondering what the heck was going on. I know that this is erotica but who has the time to have sex when facing zombie apocalypse. Well these characters did and to take it even further they were talking about having a baby. What the hell! It is a freaking zombie apocalypse, why would you want to subject a child to that, and besides how will you keep the child safe?   SMH.

The relationship between the characters lacked credibility.  Allie has been hiding for eight days when she thought it was safe she came out of hiding. The first person she encountered was Daniel. Now I understood her initial reaction to him after all she didn’t know if he was a zombie. I liked that he did not force himself on her and that he recognised he needed to gain her trust.  Then the unthinkable happen they started a relationship in the midst of the chaos. I get she was the only woman around and chances are there may be no more available but I could not get on board with the insta love connection. Then, Finn was added to the mix, which made things that much stranger. At first, neither Daniel nor Allie was interested in turning their relationship into a threesome, but then they reconsidered.  Wow! Talk about a 360-degree turn.  Then in the blink of an eye Allie was in love with Finn, bear in mind she is also in love with Daniel. I never really cared for the characters. Allie especially got on my nerves.  My only concern was when the zombies were coming out as I was eager for some zombie action.

I must admit though, there were a few good parts to the story. There was the time when they had to contend with some crazed bikers intent on killing Daniel and taking Allie for themselves. Finn came to the rescue, and what followed was not only intense but also exciting. Then the story tapered off and it was not until the eighty percent mark that things picked up once again, and the threats faced were deadlier than they could ever imagine. There were some fun moments and there were a few times I laughed but in the process, I could not help but roll my eyes.

For me Flesh was a story about two men desperate for a woman, that the first one they see they immediately lay claim to her. I realise several people love this book, but it was not my thing. Therefore, if you have no issue with the above-mentioned issues then you can try this one.
