Silent Run has been on my kindle since 2012. Still not sure why it took me so long to read it, but I am glad I finally did. Silent Run is a slow burn suspenseful novel that grabbed my attention from the first page. It kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.
Like most of the books in this genre, the focus of the story was on the suspense, leaving the romance with a minor role.  In this instance, it worked pretty well as the main characters were already in a relationship, albeit a complex one. Complex, as it was a relationship built on lies, but as the story progressed, the rationale for the lies became clear. Based on the circumstances under which the lies developed, I understood the heroine’s (Sarah’s) actions. However, what I had a hard time with was her actions after her past caught up to her. Actions, which led to her current predicament, which involved her having amnesia, her daughter missing and the father of said daughter (Jake) angry at her for what he perceived as her betrayal. Added to all of this, someone wants her dead.  Now both she and Jake have to work at unravelling the lies, as this is the key to finding their daughter and to find out who wants Sarah dead.
Jake’s attitude towards her is cold, which is understandable. However, maintaining this attitude proved a challenge as his love for her remained strong despite the lies and betrayal. As they worked together to get to the truth, Jake would learn that all is not black and white.
I loved how Jake and Sarah grew throughout the story. They both recognized and acknowledged the mistakes they made and were willing to take the necessary steps to make amends.
The secondary characters also helped to drive the story.  The one I most intriguing was Jake’s brother, Dylan. I was happy to discover his story would be told in the sequel.
Although the story did not move at a fast pace, there was never a dull moment. The author created an atmosphere that had me eagerly turning the pages. The story flowed seamlessly, and the events came together to create a satisfactory ending.
Conclusion/Recommendation
Silent Run was an addictive tale that I finished in two sittings. This is my first time reading Barbara Freethy and I am sure it will not be my last.

“Freethy hits the ground running as she kicks off another winning romantic suspense series…Freethy is at her prime with a superb combo of engaging characters and gripping plot.” Publishers’ Weekly

A woman awakes in a hospital bed with no idea of who she is. Her memory is gone, her baby missing. All she has is the gripping certainty that she is in mortal danger. Then a handsome, angry stranger barges in and makes a terrible accusation. He was her lover—and her child’s father—until she disappeared seven months ago.

Jake Sanders swore he’d never forgive Sarah Tucker, but he isn’t about to let her get away again–especially not with his daughter still missing. If he has any chance of recovering his baby, he must help the woman who betrayed him retrieve the pieces of her shattered memory—without letting his feelings get in the way.

Haunted by troubling flashes of memory, Sarah begins to realize she’s lived a life of lies. But what is the truth? And where is her baby?
