The premise for Repeat by Kylie Scott intrigued me, so when I discovered it was a part of the Audible Romance Package, I jumped at the chance to give it a listen. Well, I am glad I gave it a chance. This story hit all the spots. Engaging, sexy, unique and unputdownable.
Repeat tells the story of a young woman, Clementine Johns, who received a second chance at life and love. She has no memories of her past because of a brutal attack, which left her with retrograde amnesia. She sets out on a journey of tracing her past based on clues she uncovered during her recovery. Her journey led her to a tattoo shop where she encountered Ed Larsen, who was not happy to see her. However, when he learnt of her attack, he set his feelings aside and made himself available to answer all her pressing questions.
Ed and Clementine’s’ relationship ended on a bad note. Since then he has been trying to come to terms with the breakup. Therefore, Clem’s sudden appearance with no knowledge of their history was a shock to his system. He had no interest in being friends, but the more time he spent in her company he realised he never stopped loving her.
I enjoyed getting to know Clem. The memory loss worked in her favour. Here she got a second chance to experience falling in love and discover her true self without the negativity, insecurities and jealousy that plagued her past.
The story was told solely from Clem’s POV, therefore; I was not privy to Ed’s thoughts as it relates to Clem not having memories of their relationship. I would have loved to know from his perspective the effect the breakup had on him.
I enjoyed the slow burn romance, which I found sweet and endearing. I enjoyed learning of Ed’s reaction to what one may call the new and improved Clem. Outspoken, bolder, stronger, and more secure in herself.
Throughout the story, there were hints that the attack on Clem was not random and danger was imminent. The suspense thread proved disappointing as I managed to figure out who attacked Clem and contributed to the sabotaging of her relationship with Ed.
The secondary characters brought humour and passion to the story and enjoyed getting to know them. I loved them all, especially Ed’s brother Leif, who was a wisecracking and lovable character.
This is my first time listening to Andi Arnt, and I thought she did an excellent job. Her tone and pacing are perfect for the story. She brought the characters alive and added to my enjoyment of the story.
Repeat is a story of second chances and rediscovery of oneself. I recommend this story to readers who enjoy a slow burn second chance romance served with a side of suspense.
