Deeper than the ocean

Deeper Than The Ocean is the fourth book in the Deep Six series. This is my first time reading the series, but I had no difficulty following. The author provided sufficient back story, which made it easy to get into this installment without feeling at a lost. However, after reading this installment, one has the urge to go back and pick up the other books in the series.

I had a good time with this book. The romance, the suspense, the humour and the banter between the characters kept me entertained throughout the story. In this installment we get Chrissy and Wolf’s story.

Wolf, a former navy seal, and the members of his salvaging team (also former navy seals) found the Santa Christina. However, there was a problem. They did not find the treasure. To distract himself from the disappointment of not finding the treasure, Wolf made it his mission to convince Chrissy that they were meant for each other. He would have a hard time convincing her, as Chrissy had a stubborn streak a mile long. It didn’t help that she believed falling in love was a fallacy. To make matters worse, she kept judging him based on an incident which occurred between them in the past. However, when Chrissy accidentally stumbled on a crime making her a target of cold-blooded criminals, Wolf ceased the opportunity to protect her and in the process prove to her that falling in love is real.

I enjoyed the romance, which developed between the main characters. Although, several times Chrissy frustrated me with her refusal to acknowledge her feelings. The many excuses she hid behind to avoid coming to terms with her feelings highlighted her stubborn. Luckily, Wolf was not the type to give up easily.

The glimpse I got into the relationship between the couple appearing in the next installment, has me excited for its release.

I enjoyed the suspense thread, although some some  aspects had me shaking my head. I could not understand how they failed to see that these incidents were attacks against Chrissy and not mere coincidences. The revelation of the true identity of head honcho came as no surprise, as I suspected their involvement from the moment of their introduction.

Conclusion/Recommendation

Overall, Deeper Than the Ocean was a solid read and one I  would recommend to fans of the genre.

About Julie Ann Walker

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Julie grew up in a house full of women – she has three older sisters. As you can imagine, there was no lack of drama… or romance. Her mother enrolled her in a book club as soon as she began to read and it was the small spark that ignited her voracious appetite for the written word.  Because of Julie’s early immersion in literature, she found writing came quite naturally. In high school, she won multiple writing contests and was the proud senior editor of The Tiger’s Tale – her school newspaper.  During her college years, however, she longed for a challenge. “Reading and writing felt like second nature to me, so I looked for a way to flex my mental muscles,” she recalls. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, Julie began teaching advanced high school mathematics. “I loved working with the students and facing the challenges of the classroom, but I longed for the occasional snow day when I could race to the local book store, buy two or three new novels, and curl up in front of the fire to read.” It wasn’t until a fortuitous move to Chicago that Julie once more returned to her first passion. Now Julie loves to travel the world looking for views to compete with her deadlines. When she’s not writing, she enjoys camping, hiking, cycling, cooking, petting every dog that walks by her, and… reading, of course!

  1. I have several books written by this author but haven’t read any of them yet. This sounds like something that I would enjoy since it has some action to go along with the romance. Good to know that it can work as a stand-alone. Great review!

  2. Man! I let this series get away from me. I read the prequel in an anthology and even the first book. Loved them. Somehow, I forgot to look for the newer releases. I love the treasure hunt and salvage background and Wolf sounds great the way he stays at her. I can see why you got frustrated with the way she refused to deal with her relationship issues. I need to catch up. 🙂
