She stuffed the oilcloth-wrapped leftovers from their noon meal into her valise along with a change of clothing. On impulse, she fished among her dresses until she found a framed photograph of her parents and a beaded bag that contained her old baby brush and spoon, swaddled in her mother’s hand crocheted dresser scarf.
